How to create an oil pastel resist still-life

First, create a simple still-life. I chose bumpy squash in honor of autumn.

Create a light contour sketch of your still- life. Don't forget to draw in your shadow shapes.

Use chalk to trace over your pencil lines. These lines will eventually darken with ink.

Apply thick, oil pastel color in between your chalk lines. I recommend blending and layering colors.

Quickly apply a layer of India ink over your still-life. When you are done, gently rinse of the India ink in cool water. India ink stains, so be careful. You can also use black watercolor.

This process adds a different texture and quality to your artwork. How else can you use this technique?
